Crystal-Induced Arthropathies are joint disorders caused by the deposition of crystals in the joints, leading to inflammation and pain. Gout, one type of crystal-induced arthropathy, is caused by the accumulation of uric acid crystals, often resulting in sudden and severe pain, redness, and swelling, commonly in the big toe. Another type, pseudogout, occurs due to the deposition of calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate (CPPD) crystals in the joints, leading to joint pain and swelling, most commonly affecting the knees. Both conditions can cause significant discomfort and mobility issues if not properly managed.
